Flagrant Targeting of Opponent’s Head/Neck
Rule 5 Section 4 Checks involving head/neck or defenseless player. ART. 2 . . . A player shall not initiate contact to an opponent's head or neck with a cross-check, or with any part of the body (head, elbow, shoulder, etc.). ART. 5 . . . A player shall not bodycheck a player in a defenseless position. This includes but is not limited to: • body-checking a player from the "blind side;" • body-checking a player whose head is turned away to receive a pass, even if that player turns toward the contact immediately before the body check PENALTY: Items above are two- or three-minute non-releasable fouls at the official's discretion. An excessively violent violation may result in an ejection. ART. 7 . . . A player shall not initiate targeting that intentionally takes aim at a player in a defenseless position. PENALTY: Targeting shall result in a three-minute, non-releasable foul. An excessively violent violation of this rule may result in an ejection Rule 9 section 5 Unnecessary Roughness ART. 3 . . . Any avoidable act on the part of a player that is deliberate and ­excessively violent, whether it be with the body or crosse. This may include a legal body check. 3
